It even pains me to sit down and write this blog as I need to recall what I viewed at 9pm last night. If you did'nt see it I am sure that it will be repeated so check your TV listings (or my advice is d'ont). The show is meant to find the next big invention of our times. The show had a panel of "experts" more about them later.
So what kind of inventions were on the show ? here are a few that I looked at before I flicked away.
From what I could understand the studio audience would pick the winner and the grand final would be a phone in (live). So you have say 100 people(picked from the street) who will determine the success of a new invention, novel.
Added to this the panel was comprised of 3 people, one guy invented a football boot that made the football bend and swerve in the air,the guy how invented "Cobra Beer" and Ruth Badger "star of the Apprentice" and now a business consultant, but has'nt invented anything yet.
It has to be the worst business show I have ever seen. It makes me think that if the guy who invented the wheel was up in front of them he would be rejected. Questions like "so you took a square and shaved off the sides" or "I dont get it what will it be used for exactly?"
I can't wait for the "Dragon's Den" to return at least the panel has an appreciation of business, and to be fair the people that appear on it are far more professional than the "inventors" that appeared last night.

I had actually bought a bottle of wine to accompany watching this but it was pretty clear after a few minutes the big idea was going to be rubbish.
The presenter, Richard Bacon (once upon a time a Blue Peter presenter) couldn't even manage to shave before the show and is the wrong person for the role. Perhaps. Until you realise the real purpose of the show is to promote Vodofone and sell more contracts and handsets. In doing so they seem to be targeting a younger audience, devising a show which tries to cross Pop Idol with the Dragons Den but fails to be either, or anything.
There is a complete lack of content in the show. The focus is on a product rather than the person who brought it there, and for that reason, you may as well flush your £100k away as you could be giving it to someone without any ability to make a successful business.
And what about the panel? Neither Craig Johnston (football boot) or Karan Bilimoria (Cobra beer - mmmm) have any public profile. They don't come accross as being hugely successful and wealthy individuals or as being able to provide any true business mentoring skills to budding entrepreneurs. They're not investors.
And how has Ruth Badger managed to cross from being an apprentice to guru in a few short months? It just doesn't work.
Can you imagine if the panel included James Dyson or Philip Green or Alan Sugar or Stelios? Well, I think if they read the programme script they'd turn it down.
At least the US Apprentice is on again on Wednesday night. Hurray. Now have a look at Donald Trumps website and feel the success. This is the way to do it: Donald Trump
