Supermarket Queues - 10 items or less

Wednesday 29 Nov, 2006 - 20:12pm | 2 comments |

Hi Guys,

Have to first that I love your website and had good fun reading all the really annoying **** here. Once I have reflected on these I will add suitable comments.

A particular pet hate of mine (having just returned from Morrissons) is the checkout queue headed 10 items or less.

This evenings entertainment was spent behind a big sweaty builder with an overflowing basket of choccie delights. It was patently obvious even to a blind man that there was more than 10 (total no of items was 27, I played peekabo at the receipt) yet the checkout girl smiled sweetly and proceeded to run the items through the checkout.

Surely the point of having these signs is that both members of the public and staff heed this notices and have due respect for other store customers.

Now that I have that off my chest back to my leg waxing

..

I'm actually begining to think our supermarkets are run without supervision or staff training.

I once had to wait at the top of a queue while the checkout chap in my local Tesco carried on his conversation with a customer who had already paid and packed all their groceries away. My fairly typical response was to wait, while inwardly blowing my top.

For six months afterwards I carried out a personal boycott of Tescos, going to Sainsburys instead, but I had to give that up as there never seemed to be anything on the shelves.

ps. Thank you and well done for joing the really annoying #### blog. Doesn't it make you feel better? I look forward to reading more.

.. The Common Innumerate

Thursday 30 Nov, 2006 - 09:22am

I actually avoid the express checkout as I actually confronted a innumerate to receive a torrent of abuse. I stood there smiling continuing to point out that the express checkout is for 10 items or less. The innumerate's temper was,nt going down so a "Manager", (how can you be a manager and you have'nt started shaving yet?) was called. It was claimed by the innumerate that it spent hundreds of euro per week in the shop,(which persumably allows you have no respect for others) I asked why have a sign at all then? which was answered with the "whaaaaa factor"by the "Manager".

I have noticed in other supermarkets that the sign says "Baskets of 10 items or less" what do people do?, they carry two baskets.
