News headlines

Tuesday 19 Dec, 2006 - 10:41am | 4 comments |

With the advent of 24hr News Channels, the "Breaking News" headline has become part and parcel of your viewing. You know the one, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen summarising new information that has come to hand. Well "Sky News" wins the lamest "Breaking News" headline of the year for what it just threw up on the screen, it read "Police erect tent at No.79 London Road, Ipswich".

I watch the news to be informed not to be told every detail just because they need to ensure that they look like they are the only News Channel available. Where is the editorial standard?. As usual sensationalism and not journalism seems to be winning the day.

What will the next "Breaking News" headline something like "Team loses games as opponents score more goals".

.. Bikini on eBay

Tuesday 19 Dec, 2006 - 12:44pm
Actually they had another great breaking news story a few weeks ago. Myleene Klass had the bikini she wore on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" up for auction on eBay. Although it might be interesting, is it really breaking news?

.. Lame?

Correct me if I am wrong but wan't this news story covering the murder of five girls in Ipswitch?

The fact that a tent has been erected around the home of one of the suspects surely is breaking news. I am sure people still had concerns about their safety and whether the killer might still be at large.
